Anthony Kelly - Player, Lincoln
Anthony was born in Chicago and was an outstanding athlete in the Windy City. Needless to say, the New York Mets identified this talent too and drafted him right out of high school. Kelly was spotted by the University of Nebraska coaches as a real talent and convinced him to play for the Huskers where he was starting pitcher from 1980-83. In 1981, Anthony threw the last no hit game in Husker baseball history against the Oklahoma Sooners. He played with a number of semi professional teams in the state and was the leading hurler for the Beatrice Bruins for several summers, leading the squad in wins. Following his college career he singed professionally with the Houston Astros and followed that with a stint with the Orioles. In 1986, Kelly was named the Southern League pitchers of the year and went on to win 14 games in the AAA Pacific Coast League. |
