Brad Hansen - Columbus, Coach/Manager. It's always difficult to select inductees to the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame but the name of Brad Hansen jumped out at the selection committee. After graduating from UNL he began teaching at Cathedral HS in Omaha. Following a stint there he moved on to a coaching career that lasted for 33 championships. Additional championships followed and in '83 he moved to Aquinas HS and then to Columbus where he was an assistant principal. He was quite a stimulus for baseball in the area. Among other things, he was instrumental in founding the Columbus Mariners Select Program for kids, the Columbus Baseball Association, and spring varsity baseball for Columbus High School Mariners initiate the Columbus Senior Reds team, giving Columbus two varsity Legion teams. During the same time he founded a reserve spring baseball team and coached reserve baseball teams until his retirement in 2012. What an amazing record of helping promote Nebraska baseball! |
