One of the most outstanding pitchers in Nebraska in the 30's and 40's was Byron's own ELIA GRUEBER. The 6'5 fireballer had numerous strikeout pitches without ever having any real coaching. He could be found pitching in one town in the afternoon and in another town pitching that same night. Elia signed professionally by the Brooklyn Dodgers and played in Arkansas, and Cheyenne, WY pitching in the always tough Western League. |
